For Best Server Experience

We welcome you to 24/7 FREELANCER UNIVERSE (FLU) and hope you decide to make us your home Freelancer server. We hope you have a good time.

In order to make your experience on FLU as enjoyable as possible we suggest you follow these practices below:

1). Play and Complete the Single-Player Game Before Getting Into Multi-Player.
While we welcome new players and players new to Freelancer, it is difficult to teach you how to play the game and fly your ship while in game. The Single-Player game will teach you how to fly your ship, upgrade and use weapons and equipment, the basics of combat, and the system maps before you try Multi-Player. Being able to play the game goes a long way towards your acceptance in the community.

2). Be a Human Being.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you are going to be a jerk, expect the established community to respond in kind. As a matter of fact, expect them to return it in spades. Then expect to receive the ire and righteous wrath of the admin personnel for disrupting the community. If you treat the other players with respect you will be welcomed with open arms. If you don’t, you won’t.

3). Read the Forums and the Rules Before You Do Anything.
The forums will introduce you to the community and allow you to begin to know the other players. You will be able to identify who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. You will be able to identify which clans are ‘good-guy’ clans and which lean more towards the dark side. You may even begin to develop relationships and friendships with some of the players while in communication with them. This is to be encouraged.

Many players come on this server expecting the server to adjust to them and their way of thinking. This does not happen in real life and it doesn’t happen here. Those who receive enlightenment recognize the error of their ways and adjust their attitudes accordingly. Those who fail to do so do not last long.

4). Get to Know the Server and the Other Players Before You Start a New Clan
There are clans on this server that have been here for a year or more. Some have been here since the server started over three years ago. There are MANY more who have come and gone in the space of a few weeks or months. The greatest mistake new players seem to make is to attempt building a new clan before they build relationships with the players and clans that are already established on FLU. The ONLY time I’ve seen this work is when an entire established clan from another server picked up stakes and moved here. Clan development is hard work and requires a great deal of effort and negotiation. If you wish to start a new clan, expect to lose a great deal of play time.

Before trying to start a new clan, make sure you have a pile of credits. You will need them to attract new players to join your clan. You will also need them to bargain with and negotiate with existing clans. Do not be surprised if you finance a new player with a new ship and equipment and then not see them after two weeks. Many players try the game or the server and then lose interest. If you lose your money, you’re out of luck.

Find out the mandates of the existing clans and determine yours before you create your clan. A clan struggling for an identity is never taken seriously. Before you form a new clan, get at least four other players to commit to your concept before you do so. As a matter of fact, get those four players to commit to you for a decent amount of time, (think weeks), before you form your clan. The last thing we want you to do is fail.

Live with your mandate. If you decide to form a ‘good-guy’ clan, don’t be surprised if the ‘bad-guy’ clans come gunnin’ for you. Likewise, if you choose to be a pirate clan, or a ‘bad-guy’ clan, don’t be surprised when all the ‘good-guy’ clans start hunting you down. Finally, don’t attempt to take on a large clan or a large alliance without developing your alliances first. Invariably this practice leads to failure and in most cases, the players from the defeated clans leave the server. We want you to stay, we want you to have fun, and we want you to succeed.

Don’t Lose Your Cool. If you wish to be placed on KOS lists, if you wish to be hunted down in every character you own, if you wish to be the recipient of all manner of abuse, then by all means, rant and rave, threaten and fume, shake your fist at your monitor and cuss your face purple. See where it gets you. If you wish to be respected by the other players and accepted as a peer, then take your beatings like a man, accept and acknowledge when you are defeated, be gracious as a winner, play fairly and honorably, do good to your enemy, and you will live long and prosper on this server. If you do not follow these guidelines, you will follow the long trail of tears taken by hundreds before you.
