24/7 FREELANCER UNIVERSE Unofficial Rules
The primary difference between Official and Unofficial rules is that violations of an official rule may result in a summary ban with or without warning, depending on the severity of the violation. A violation of an unofficial rule will generally result in a warning and when necessary, a game kick. Repeated violations of an unofficial rule may result in imprisonment or a ban, depending on the severity of the violation.
Unofficial Rules are as follows:
1). Do not fire on Admins or Server Police [SP] unless you have been given permission or orders to do so.
Firing on Admins or Server Police [SP] is annoying in the extreme while the admin personnel are doing their job. Many times the admin personnel are engaged in conversation with other players dealing with server issues or assisting the player with information about the system. Generally the offender will receive a warning to desist in such behavior. Ignoring the warning is done at your own peril. Server Police have discretionary powers to deal with annoying players as they see fit.
2). Use English in System chat.
If you wish to speak another language with another player, use private chat to do so.
The language commonly used on the server is English. While there are many players from many non-English speaking countries on FLU the great majority of players here speak and understand English. Please use it while in System chat in order to prevent confusion. Use of another language is acceptable in private chat.
3). Do not SPAM System chat
The practice of SPAMming up the screen with useless and mindless posts is another annoying practice that is discouraged. Please do not engage in this activity.
4). Do not harass other players.
This refers to the over engaging of the same individual(s) excessively in combat or conversaion. This also includes begging for money or equip because repeatedly begging for money or equipment is distracting and annoying to other players. Most of them started out just like you and worked their way to where they are. If they choose to be generous to a free-loader, that’s up to them. Don’t be a nuisance.
Admins reserve the right to amend or add to these rules as needed.
Accepted Standard of Behavior
There is an accepted Code of Conduct on FLU which has been developed over time by members of FLU who have been on since its inception. These rules, when flagrantly abused, will result in a couple of penalties. If enough complaints are received from other players the offender may be warned, imprisoned for a time to ‘cool off’, or may even be banned for a period of time until their brain can kick in. Repeated violations of these Standards of Behavior will also earn you a poor reputation among the other players resulting in a miserable time for you on the server. Please be warned.
1). No Dockraping
Dockraping is the cowardly practice of killing a player while they are unable to control their ship. This occurs in the first few seconds after a player undocks from a planet or base or while entering a jumpgate. If the blue status bar of the player’s ship is not visible, then the player is still trapped in the launch or dock movie and is unable to defend him or her self. This is a dishonorable practice and is generally frowned upon by the community at large.
2). No F1 While in Combat With Other Players
Using F1 as a method to evade an opponent while in combat is also considered to be a cowardly way to fight. If you are taking a beating, take it like a man. Die like a man, and come back until you learn how to do it right and hold your own. F1 is permitted after combat in order to get any attacking NPCs off your back. F1 is also permitted with permission of your opponent to fight lag.
3). No Using Healers or Regens While in Combat With Other Players
Using regens while in combat with other players is considered to be a cheap way to avoid the inevitable. Do not use regens while in combat with other players unless their use has been negotiated prior to engagement. If prior negotiation does not take place it is assumed that regens will not be used.
4). No Planet Diving While in Combat With Other Players
The server has an option enabled to allow a player that has killed another player to gain credits from the kill. The idea is that dying now costs you, with the penalty for being bankrupted resulting in your character being moved to Freeport 2 Station in Bering. Planet diving to rob another player of his kill money is tantamount to cheating and will not be tolerated. Planet diving to repair your ship after combat must be agreed to between all involved parties beforehand. This being said, friendly kills to keep credits from falling into enemy hands is allowed.
